Improper Words

Language is funny.

It's living. It evolves. We introduce new words/concepts into our daily speech, into our dictionaries. ("Google" for instance.)

But, you know, there are just some places one has to draw a line.

"Irregardless" is one. Irregardless is not a word. The word is "regardless."

I can't stand double negatives.

But there are two others that bug me most of all, I think.

And these two words I (typically) encounter in fanfiction and even original fiction that's published on the 'net.

They usually show up in sex scenes. Or perhaps they just stand out more in sex scenes.

Thankfully, I've only (thus far) encountered one or the other in any story. I'm not sure I could handle the double whammy.

What's most disheartening is when they're used in a story where the writing is, otherwise, good.

I'm moving along, enjoying what I'm reading...and there it is. Hideous. Dreadful. Jarring.

Dear writers. Please. Please.

"Grinded" is not correct. The word is "ground."

"Thrusted" is also not a correct usage. The word you're looking for is "thrust."

These are irregular verbs. English has a lot of them. They get confusing. But you're on the Internet. You've got the resources, to be cliche, at your fingertips.

These errors shouldn't occur as often as they do.
